Kayak Trip-Tristeza Branch

KAYAK TRIP – 2 DAYS
TRISTEZA BRANCH

ITINERARY

Day before:

If it’s not possible to make the check in our offices, please call us the day before to confirm the time and exact place where we pick you up; if you have any last minute detail o requirement to make is necessary that you clarify it a day before.

Day 1:

Meeting at the departing point, transfer to Bahía López, where we get familiar with our kayaks and the rest of the group while we pack. After a safety policies Chat an Kayak orientation we will start.
Departing from Bahía López, just in few minutes we will be into a dreaming landscape, the Tristeza Branch surrounded by López and Capilla mountains among others. We row part of the branch and stop to lunch next to the most beautiful waterfall of the area. During the afternoon we will continue rowing till the source of the branch, where we will camp.

Day 2:

During the morning we will make a easy trekking ascent to Frey Waterfall, by a wood full of native species as the millennial Alerce. Once there we will prepare the boats again to start the return by the branch till Bahía López. We will be rowing always among immense snowed mountains as Capilla, López, etc. both with more than 2000 meters high.

EQUIPMENT

This is a list of recommended items for safety and comfort during the Kayak tour. Our kayaks are basically “estancos”; however, small quantities of water might penetrate by the “tambuchos”. To prevent the equipment get wet all your staff has to be packed in dry bags or water proof bags.

We will provide you nylon bags for the equipment and dry bags to store cameras and value objects.

Temperatures:

The temperatures during summer are generally pleasant with variations from 28Cº to 25Cº (70 to 80 Fº), the highest temperatures are registered from December to January.
The lowest temperatures are registered during winter (June- July and August) with variations between -2Cº and 5 Cº.
The rain and winds might appear in any season. We recommend you to be prepared for the variations, bringing with you appropriate clothes.

Navigation equipment: the kayaks are double, with rudder, expedition models, imported from Canada. Are very stable, easy to maneuver and very comfortable. Faldon, row, kayak water proof jacket and PFD (life jacket) and neoprene mittens will be provided to all the passengers.

Sleeping bag: A synthetic fabric sleeping bag is recommended. If you feel disconcert about the weather or you don’t have an appropriate sleeping bag, please do not hesitate in calling us .

Slippers to wet: We recommend you to bring a pair of waterproof slippers or neoprene boats. Most of our guides use sandals in this trip

Camping shoes: a pair of tennis shoes appropriate for the camping

Cap: a jockey cap will be ideal.

Wool hat: is very useful specially during winter

Shades and sun block: The sun in the area is very tricky, please consider that the sunblock have to be waterproof.

Medicines:
 If you carry any medication please consider

1. Please advice your guide about the timing and medication.
2. Pack the medication in waterproof bags. 
3. Bring extra doses in a separate bag, the guide will take care of the extra dose in case you lose yours.

Personal items: Teeth brush, towel, hairbrush, toothpaste Etc.

Flashlights: do not forget the batteries

Bottles of water: We will provide you mineral bottled water.

Camera: please do not forget to pack it in a waterproof bag

Gloves: will be necessary only during winter

Along our journey we will provide coffee, tea, coke, and during night some wine for the dinner.

CLOTHING    

The clothing have to go according the season of the year. Please consider that could be rainy any day. We recommend dress up in layers ( like an onion) the first layer could be Lycra cause it gets dry very easy the second layer could be polar fabric etc. in order to regulate the body temperature. Please avoid cotton clothing. The wool is also recommended.

  3. Tick pants: 1 pair for the camping time. We do not recommend jeans
  4. Pants: 1 pair of Light pants, fast dry
  5. Sweaters: 2 sweaters
  6. Long-leave shirts: 3 (please avoid cotton)
  7. Shirts: 2 o 3
  8. Shorts: 2, (recommended fast dry)
  9. Socks: 2 pairs, 3 light pairs to row
  10. Extra clothing.

Note:  The Kayak touring is available from September to April, also the rainy and snowy days. Please remember is a true kayak experience, all the necessary equipment will be carry in our kayaks.
