National Park Tierra del Fuego - Argentina

This national park is located in the southwest from the province Tierra del Fuego, 18 kilometers westwards from Ushuaia.
When you get on the old Train Austral Fueguino, you are taken back in time. It is like going back to the first years of this city, when the train was used for the prison. The classical steam locomotives, the heated vagons and its wide windows create a unique atmosphere still present since the golden years of the railroad.
All these things make it the first turistic train of Latin America built especially for that purpose. Not to mention that along the entire trip you are surrounded by green forests, beautiful landscapes with mountains, rivers, lakes and the imposing Andes Range. It is also important to mention that the environment is well taken care of for the fuel used to run the train makes it the most ecological means of transportation. The environmental impact is minimal.
Another beauty of this sanctuary is the Laguna Negra. Its name comes from the fact that the water is very dark due to the moss that grows under neath it. European rabbits are abundant there.
Only part of the park can be visited along the existing paths. The rest of its surface is completely unknown to men, and thus, well protected for being one of the scarce virgin corners in the planet.
Inside the park you can see many vegetal species from Andean Patagonia like the calafate, ñirre, lenga, coihue magallanico and canelo.
But, doubtlessly, the biggest attraction is the drosera, one of the smallest carnivorous plants.
From the animals, the most outstanding ones are the red fox, guanaco and sea dogs. With some luck you will see beautiful dolphings and black throat swans.
Fishing lovers can find here róbalos, salmons, trouts and tasty centollas.

Recommendations:
Either in summer or winter we recommended to take along warm and waterproof clothes.
Don't miss the chance to take a trip around the zone on the sailing boats from Bahía Lapatoia.
Don't forget to try the exquisite centolla.
Approach the Municipal office for tourism to take trips on land, water or air, and to obtain the best available information about round trips, reservations and departure schedules. It opens from 8 to 21 on weekdays and from 9 to 20 on weekends.
A good place to visit is the old prison and currently sea museum of Ushuaia. In the summer it opens every day from 10 to 13 and from 16 to 20. Entrance is not free.
A license is required to fish. You can obtain it at the Asociación de Caza y Pesca de Ushuaia or at the Administration of National Parks, located on 1395 San Martin Street.
Stores close for lunch from 12:30 to 15:30.
