Mar del Plata
The zone where nowadays is Mar del Plata was known as Costa Galana, Lobería Unica,
Region del Volcán, Punta de los Lobos, etc.
Mar del Plata is located 404 kilometers away from Buenos Aires on the Atlantic
Ocean, and it is considered the historical center of beach tourism in Argentina.

Tourist attractions
Walking northward along the path of the casino, you will see the Milenio square
and its dancing water fountain with music, water games and lights.
On the lane along the shore, you will be amazed by the spectacular view of the
north coast of Mar del Plata and Santa Clara del Mar .
On the boulevard, by the street Santiago del Estero you can see the beaches, the
Torrejon del Monte and farther south, Cabo Corrientes.
You can hike and carry out sea trips along the coast of Mar del Plata.
Boats depart every 40 minutes. You will see Playa Grande, Playa Chica, Cabo
Corrientes, Playa Varese, Torreon del Monje and Casino.
For the whole family's fun, there are amusement parks: Agualandia, with giant
pools, waves and water slides. Visit the zoo "El Paraiso", with endemic, exotic

Beaches
· Playas de Camet: The T - shaped breakwaters soften the waves and form
little bays; small beaches with fine, gray sand, and easy to reach through the
Felix U. Carmet Avenue. There are lifeguards and some little restaurants.
· Northern access beaches: They stretch out between Constitucion Avenue,
parallel to Acceso Norte up to the intersection with Independencia Avenue. Still
there are T - shaped breakwaters, sand turns grainier and more golden. The beaches
have good waves, and surfers are common there.
· Playa La Perla: It is a spa resort with footbridges and a varied offer
of services. Because of their convenient location, from the beginning of Avenue
Independencia to the Paseo Adolfo Dávila, the beaches are well attended by families
with kids due to an important offers of entertainment. The beaches are wide, with
golden sand and the waves break very high.
· Punta Iglesia, Bahia Playa Bristol and Paseo Hermitage: Beyond the
Paseo Adolfo Dávila, a great rocky place where you can fish from the coast, a bay
opens up by the downtown area, from Diagonal Alberdi to the Torrejón del Monje
along the Boulevard Patricio Peralta Ramos. The wide beaches have thick sand a
soft decline and calm waves. It is ideal for walk at day or night, or to enjoy a
roundtrip by boat. The quarter of Paseo Hermitage has a food garden, stores and
an outdoor scenario.
· Playa Varese: Between the Torrejon del Monje and Cabo Corrientes, there
is a calm, wide bay with fine sand, no decline and very soft waves. It is ideal
to practice water sports.
· Playa Chica: The spurs of the Tandilia hill reach the sea on this narrow
beach with little sand, but having real terraces of stone surrounded by leafy
vegetation; ideal place to bask in the sun. This coastside is complemented by a
magnificent view of Playa Grande and the port of Mar del Plata.
· Playa Grande: Through the Park San Martin, from General Roca Street to
Escollera Norte, the tourist resort Playa Grande stretches out. The beach is wide,
and it has the best waves for surfing and bodyboarding.
· Punta Mogotes: Next to the port, connected with the Reserva Natural
del Puerto by a zone of lagoons, are the 24 spas of Punta Mogotes, on a 4 kilometers
long bay.
· Punta Cantera - Faro: Fron Punta Mogones to Faro there is a sector
called Punta Cantera. It has modern as well as traditional buildings. A narrow
strip of sand and outstanding rocks are the characteristic of these beaches. The
spas have elegant restaurants, solariums and beautiful pools a stone throw away
from the sea. You will be delighted by the sight of the city at day and night.
· Playas del Sur:South from the lighthouse of Punta Mogotes there is a
place with private spas, docks and modern buildings alternate with pine tree and
medano forests. Farther down there are impressing cliffs up to 22 meters above
sea level. The beaches have fine sand and you can take walks along the coast.
There is access to the sea for 4x4 vehicles, motor boats, jet skis and windsurf.
· Playas de Chapadmalal: At 99 kilometers from the lighthouse rondel you
will see a resort with 9 hotels on the wide beaches with cliffs. It is a beautiful
park area with a lake and a little chapel with an uncommon architectonic style.
· Playas Nudista: If you want to practice nudism you can visit the
naturist beach 25 kilometers south from the city. At 400 meters from the lighthouse
of Punta Mogotes there is a private beach club exclusive for couples of the same
sex, with three little pools, vestuaries, rest dairs and room for dancing. You
can take sun topless near from Santa Clara del Mar on the Ruta Interbalnearia
Nro. 11.
Countryside Tourism
At no more than 30 minutes from the city are the southeastern rural settlements
of the province of Buenos Aires.
Not far from the city you can check in an old ranch with colonial, picturesque
style from the mid-nineteeth century and beginnig of the twentieth century. Or
enjoy the countryside hiking or taking day trips.
Agriculture, dairy farms, horse raising, fruit and cereal growing are some of the
activities the families share with the tourist.

At the shore of Laguna de los Padres you can visit the municipal museum José
