Julio Cortazar Square

Location: Serrano and Honduras, Palermo

It is considered the heart of Palermo Viejo, traditional Porteño neighborhood of low houses, the square is traditionally know as "Placita Serrano" or Cortázar Square it is situated in the almost center of an Buenos Aires area known as "Palermo Soho" due its artistic and bohemian style limited, approximately, by the streets Niceto Vega, Malabia, Guatemala and Godoy Cruz. In Palermo Soho you will find movement day and night, especially on weekends. The people visit the neighborhood to visit its bars (some of them with music and theater shows), restaurants (that offers convenient price dishes for the young people and also high cuisine) and design stores from furniture, objects to fashion.
Placita Serrano was name Julio Cortazar Square to honor the famous writer that mentions the square as key scenery in many of its stories.
The inauguration day, took place a ceremony with the original propose of a open and popular “Rayuela”, denomination that represents one of its most famous works in literature.

The square on weekends is crowded with sellers of art, handicrafts, jewelry, clothes, etc. The bohemian atmosphere, the neighborhood is very popular among young argentines of upper-middle class and among tourists of course.
Each first Sunday of the month, at midday the square is transformed and acquires a new color and dynamism, because the barter fair, where the responsible not only participate of the buy-sell system without money, but also gathers 40 plastic artists that offers its work to the sell.
The idea was propose and take to the practice by the Palermo Viejo community society, whom provides the possibility of diffusion for the artist work while aims to create a free and open space where the public can enjoy of varied art expressions.
Tourists, nationals and children have the opportunity of know, buy, watch and enjoy an excellent contemporary art show in a public space.
