ESTEROS DEL IBERA

It is located in Corrientes province, to the Northeast of Argentina, the ecosystem know as  Esteros del Iberá owes its name to the Lagoon located in the center oriental area of this huge ecosystem.

The mash and lagoons of Iberá and its ecosystems are part without any doubt one of the most biologically rich areas in Argentina.
Approximately among 20 and the 30 % of the provincial reservoir Esteros Del Iberá is conformed by lagoons. There are more of seventy that reunites with the marshes and wetlands, cause a very wet environment, with diverse flora and fauna.

Among the flora you will find Ombúes, Lapachos, Jacarandas, Ceibos, Willows, Espinillos, Yatay Palm trees; and floating plants like the Irupé, Aguapé, the Repollito and the Lentejas de Agua.

Among the fauna you will find big reptiles like the Yacaré, rodents like the Coipo and the Carpincho (the biggest rodent in the world), swan stag, the Carayá Monkey, Gray fox, wild cat, Tatú or black armadillo, besides Ferrets, hares, weasels, Vizcachas, Boas, rattlesnake, Yarará, etc.
Also exists hundreds of bird species and an infinite variety of insects, among them beautiful butterflies.

The climate is subtropical, presenting a relatively dry winter, with minimum temperatures of -5 ºC, and strong precipitations along fall and spring. The summer is also wet and hot with maximum temperatures that may surpass the 45 ºC. The anula precipitations are 1.700 mm. approximately

How to get Esteros del Iberá

The ticket (roundtrip) to Posadas by Argentinas Airlines takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. From there to Carlos Pellegrini Colony are 210 Kilometers, by 4x4.
From Retiro, the semicama service by Flechabus to Mercedes takes approximately 12 hours. From there to Aguapé are 115 km. by truck
From Bs. As., are 815 kilometers approximately by the route No. 9 (Panamericana ramal Escobar), Zárate-Brazo Largo, route No. 12 till Ceibas, route No.14 to Cuatro Bocas, route No.119 till Mercedes and route 40 (115 km).

From Buenos Aires to Mercedes:

The distance is approximately 800 km., driving by National Route No. 14 continuing by National Route No.119.

From Mercedes to Carlos Pelegrini Colony:

The distance approximately is 115 km., by the National Route No. 40.
