Bariloche
In the western part of the province Rio Negro, by the huge lake Nahuel Huapi, is
the beautiful city San Carlos de Bariloche, a splendid settlement, famous for its
delicious chocolates and for being one of Argentineans most important
attractiveness.
It was founded in 1902, after the rewarding comercial exchange of goods that was
established by the Germans who settled at the shore of the estuary.
Although, the principal activities were the production of wool, wood and leather,
tourism was there since the beginning. An hotel was built, which hosted the ex us
president Theodore Roosevelt in 1913, and in 1930 the inheritor of the British
crown.
The civic center was inaugurated in 1940, and it was based on the typical European
buildings from the Alps. When the visitors walk through the stone paved streets
and sidewalks, surrounded by houses made of stone with wooden ornaments, they are
taken to a nostalgic and different environment that its creators gave it.
This town with nearly 100.000 inhabitants is the starting point for the nearby
ski center of the Catedral mountain, one of the most modern ones in South America.
The area of Bariloche has a temperate climate typical for mountains.
The highest temperature in the summer ranges between 19°C. and 22°C., while the
lowest is about 5°C. In the winter the highest is between 5°C. and 7°C., and the
lowest is always below 0°C.
It is interesting to visit:

The city, with its elegant houses and hotels, stretches out between the hills by

where different trips around the lake depart, and where there are several boats.
There are also four view points to which you can get by car, and from where you
have a beautiful panoramic view of the city with its green surroundings.
Bariloche has a wide range of hotels and accomodations, fine restaurants with
varied specialities, discos and pubs.
You can't forget to get some of the fancy mapuche weavings that are sold in
the handicraft shops, or, for the trip, some chocolates from the wide range
