Mar de Ajó, Argentina
Distance from Buenos Aires: 340 Kilometers
It is located on the Atlantic, during many years was known as Margarita Beach in honor to the ship that sank on the coast. It is one of the main touristy places of the coast mainly in summer, has great quantity of dunes.
Mar de Ajó is a beach resort and touristy city, one of the preferred one for people who loves fishing, that’s why has a vast dock, 270 meters long and 4 and 6 meters high.
Its climate is warm with average yearly temperature of 22ºC, and the highest one is 33ºC in summer.
How to arrive
From Buenos Aires to Mar de Ajó, there are two ways to arrive:
The first one is by route 36, by the Alpargatas crossroad, going along route 11(going past Pipinas), towards the left in the Conesa roundabout to the Partido de la Costa, finally arriving to Mar de Ajó.
The second one is by route 2 towards Dolores, where the route 32 connects with route 62, turning left by route 63 to the Crotto corner, then continuing by route 11 to Conesa, after turning to the left to Partido de la Costa, finally arriving to Mar de Ajó.
Events
National Festival of Whitemouth Crocker
This event is carried out in General Lavalle Camping, in November; there are many activities like fishing competition, national queen election, carriages and institutions parades, artistic and sportive spectacles. In this festival people can taste the whitemouth crockers roast.
Festivity of Margarita María de Alacoque
The festivity is carried out in October 17 in Santa Maria Margarita de Alacoque parish church. Among the activities, it bears mentioning the procession, the mass and cultural activities.
Touristy attractions
Casino
The Casino has comfortable and wide installations in Galería Beach. Many people visit this place in order to have recreation. It has great variety of roulettes and Black Jack, variety of electronic machines, this place is generally visited at night.
El Libertador Monument
The Libertador monument is in the small square, located in Libertador Avenue and “Francisco de las Carreras”. It was built in honor to José de San Martin general, is 10 meters high.
La Margarita shipwreck
This German slip sank in this coast in September 1880; maybe it is one of the oldest one in the zone. Nowadays, the remains emerge in Libertador Avenue and the sea.
Fishing dock
It is located in Costanera Avenue and Rivadavia. It is one of the biggest docks for fishing in the Partido, is 270 meters long, its structure is reinforced concrete. It was built in 1936. Nowadays, it has lighting, restaurant, bar, confectioner’s shop, etc.
