Mar de Ajó, Argentina
Distance from Buenos Aires: 340 Kilometers
It is located on the Atlantic. During many years, it was known as Margarita Beach in honor to the ship that sank on the coast. It is one of the main tourist places of the coast, mainly in summer; it possesses a great quantity of dunes.
Mar de Ajó is a beach resort and a tourist city, a preferred one for people who love fishing. It has a vast dock (270 meters long, 4 and 6 meters high).
Its climate is warm with a yearly temperature of 22ºC; the highest temperature is 33ºC in summer.
How is it possible to arrive?
From Buenos Aires to Mar de Ajó, there are two ways to arrive:
The first one is by taking the route 36, by the Alpargatas crossroad, then going along the route 11(passing Pipinas) towards the Partido de la Costa, and finally arriving to Mar de Ajó.
The second one is by following the route 2 towards Dolores where the route 32 connects with the route 62, then turning to the left by the route 63 towards the Crotto corner, continuing by the route 11 to Conesa, and finally arriving to Mar de Ajó.
Events
National Festival of White mouth Crocker
This event is carried out in The General Lavalle Camping, on November. There are many activities like fishing competition, national queen election, carriages and institutional parades, as well as artistic and sportive spectacles. In this festival, people can taste the white mouth roast.
Festivity of Margarita María de Alacoque
The festivity is carried out on October, 17 in The Santa Maria Margarita de Alacoque Parish. Among the varied activities, it is possible to mention the procession, the mass and different cultural activities.
Tourist attractions
Casino
The Casino has comfortable and wide installations situated in The Galería Beach. Many people visit this place in order to have recreation. It has a great variety of roulettes and Black Jack and a variety of electronic machines; this place is generally visited at night.
El Libertador Monument
The Libertador monument is a small square located in The Libertador and “Francisco de las Carreras” Avenues. It was built in honor to the General José de San Martin; it is 10 meters high.
La Margarita Shipwreck
This German ship sank in this coast on September, 1880. Maybe, it is one of the oldest ones in the zone. Nowadays, its remains emerge in The Libertador Avenue close to the sea.
Fishing Dock
It is located on The Costanera and Rivadavia Avenues. It is one of the biggest docks for fishing in the Partido. It is 270 meters long. Its structure is reinforced by concrete. It was built in 1936. Nowadays, it has a restaurant, a bar and a confectioner’s shop.
