El Bolsón, Argentina

This city is located to the Southwest of the province of Rio Negro, just right on the borderline of Chubut province. Since it concentrates a great variety of services, it constitutes the entry gate to the lakes: Puelo, Manso, Maiten, Cholila, Hoyo and Epuyen.

It possesses a peculiar geographical shape: a valley embraced by mountains that resembles to a big bag.

The Bolson has a varied hotel infrastructure (hotels, hostels, inns and mountain shelters). The names of the shelters, from North to South, are: Perito Moreno, Cajon del Azul, Hielo Azul, Cerro Lindo and Motoco. The famous Piltriquitron shelter is located over the mountain of the same name.

Site Attractions

Puelo Lake. It was one of the chosen spots by the first inhabitants coming from Chile. They had arrived by the bio-oceanic path of the Cuenca del Puelo which allowed the integration of the neighboring countries.

Puelo Lake National Park. It is a zone of humid woods where myrtles, ferns, climbing plants and a great variety of regional vegetable species grow. It keeps a special interest the interpretative trail called "Bosque de las Sombras" (Woods of the Shadows) since it allows visitors learn and amuse a natural and danger free environment. In this place, it is possible to find elementary services for camping and outdoor activities (excursions). There is a spa too. Also, it is possible to practice fishing, rafting or trekking in the surroundings.

Cerro Amigo. This is a Municipal Reservation located only 2 kilometers away from the center. From here, it is possible to observe the whole town. It possesses beautiful cypress woods. In the town, you can get information about the place and its geography.

The Perito Moreno shelter is the ski center. It is located 25 kilometers away from downtown. It counts with many lifting - pulling means, equipment rent, clothes and sleighs. It is quite welcoming and familiar since it is a small center more accessible than others. It offers good accommodations, rooms and gastronomy. It is open the whole year.
