Cañuelas is the most important city in Buenos Aires province few kilometers away from El Gran Buenos Aires street.
Cañuelas is one of the cities growing fast, favored by its closeness to Buenos Aires. The country style of Cañuelas is preserved and attracts the visitors, therefore many countries and weekend houses are built in the area. Many Buenos Aires enterprises take advantage of the plots of land to settled factories and distribution stores.
The district is located to the northeast of the province, 60 kilometers away from Capital Federal.
Limit to the north with Marcos Paz, La Matanza and Ezeiza cities; to the east with San Vicente and General Paz cities; to the south with Miguel del Monte city and to the west with Lobos and General Las Heras.
How to get there
- From Buenos Aires city the fastest and more direct route is by Ezeiza-Cañuelas highway (continuing by de Ricchieri highway). Distance: 60 km.
- From the Conurbano or from the National Route 205.
- From the Conurbano or from the south of the country, by route batinalo from the south of the country by National Route 3.
- From Zarate, Campana, Luján and others: by Provincial Route 6.
Transportation
Train
- From Costitucion square there’s an electric trains service of TMR, with a train change in Ezeiza. The Stops are at Máximo Paz, Vicente Casares, Alejandro Petión, Kloosterman (Smata area) La Garita and Cañuelas.
Total travel time: 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Frequency: 45 minutes approximately
- Also from Constitucion square, at 18:55 there is a daily provincial train service (Ferrobaires) direct to Cañuelas, with an only stop at Temperley.
Total travel time: 1 hour. The service stops at Uribelarrea station.
Combis
- There are daily services, with one hour frequency, from Congreso, Alto Palermo and other Buenos Aires city points, with an intermediate stop at La Martona Country Club. Total travel time: 1 hour approximately.
Bus
- From Constitution square there are daily services of Line 88 (Liniers) by Rivadavia and Alberdi. Trough localities like Ramos Mejia, San Justo, etc., entering to Cañuelas by route 3.
Total travel time: 2 hours. Some services continue to Uribelarrea and Lobos.
- From Constitucion square (San Vicente Enterprise), traveling by different localities of the Conurbano (Avellaneda, Lanús, Monte Grande, El Jagüel, Ezeiza, Tristan Suárez, etc) entering to Cañuelas by the route 205. Travels by Máximo Paz, Vicente Casares, Alejandro Petión, La Martona, with Cañuelas Terminal

Cañuelas is conveniently located in a route junction of routes and highways that easily connect it with the main cities, productive centers and consumption centers of the region.
What to visit
Like many cities in of the interior, Cañuelas started it’s develop around the church and its main square.
- Cañuelas central square It was called Buenos Aires at the beginning, but in 1950, when the San Martin bust was placed, the squared change its name to San Martín. One of the pines is a shoot of the famous San Lorenzo pine.
- In the square surroundings it’s located the Mayor Hall which was built in the 50’; and Nuestra Señora del Carmen Church, inaugurated in 1980.
- The first church was built in 1866 and demolished on 1977. From the initial structure only the bell tower was preserved.
- On Lara street across the square is situated the Cañuelas Movie Theater, built in 1938 and very appreciated due its acoustic. Besides the use in the movie projections, it is an important cultural center with 800 people capacity and along the movies also is used in recitals, theater plays, and expositions.
- Few blocks away from downtown, at Rivadavia al 450 is the School 32, that once were fonda de Machicotte, a place that Juan Moreira used to visit.
- The bar "Los Amigos" (1942), in Alem and San Vicente, is unique in Cañuelas which preserves its style, furniture even the original drinks.
- The Museum and Historical Archive "Lucio Garcia Ledesma” situated in San Martín and Brandsen, offers a tools collection and rural utensils, containers once used by La Martona Creamery, photographs, documents and books. Its attention schedule is from Monday to Friday since 8.30 to 14; Saturdays from 9 to 12 and from 16 to 20 and on Sundays from 9 to 12. The entrance is free.
- 15 blocks away from the city downtown, in a ranch made of mud and straw is located the Poli museum JC, directed by Jorge Crespo. In the museum are exhibit a varied collection of domestic utensils, rural implements, faros, a forge machine, some furniture and diverse bowls. An antique local store is also part of the exhibit, with is counter, grille, antique bottles and a board to play al sapo. It is open in Las Costas Neighborhood on weekends from 9 to 20.
- On kilometer 72 of the route 3 there’s a dust path that drives to the Gliders Club. On weekends it is possible to visit it and flight with the company of a pilot.
** Going out from Cañuelas city, one of the most interesting activities is to visit Uribelarrea town, located 20 kilometers away towards Lobos. With its century houses, dust paths, diagonals, its picturesque chapel and a varied gastronomy variety, it is presented like an ideal place for those that looks for an appeasable and silent place.
